FUN FACTS: 1950′s TELEVISION

  • The “Today” shows early ratings were not very promising, and the producers wanted to make the show more entertaining. So they added a chimpanzee named J.Fred Muggs who became an instant popular star in his own right.

  • Pittsburgh was the first city to develop a channel exclusively dedicated to educational purposes in 1954.
  • The first TV show to broadcast fully in color was “The Colgate Comedy Hour” in 1953

  • The first commercial to broadcast coast-to-coast was showing both the Golden Gate bridge and the Brooklin bridge simultaneously. A great feat for 1951!!!!
