For the daily needs of actors trying to make it big!!!
Sometimes, stars don’t have to work and sweat their way to a first gig. Sometimes, their dads, mothers, relatives or friends give them that shot. Is it fair? Is it decent.
Let me put it this way. CONTACTS are fundamental in this business. Making them from scratch or having some come as inheritance makes no difference. [...]
Its IMPERATIVE that you know each of these positions before you actually work on set if you dont want to sound amateur at work. Learn them, memorize them, and mainly respect them. These are the people that ultimately make you look good…or not…
One of the best things you can do to learn of what goes on behind the scenes of a movie if you arent able to get a job there (yet!) is watch the millions of “making of viedeos”. Some are extremely helpful and others just give you an insight into the personalities and behaviour of professional actors which is also greatly helpful. ..
The Association of Talent Agents (ATA) is a Los Angeles based nonprofit trade association comprised of over 100 talent agencies primarily located in Los Angeles and New York. ATA’s premiere membership includes agencies of all sizes representing artist clients in the motion picture industry, stage, television, radio, commercials and literary work. It is believed that ATA member agencies collectively represent ninety percent (90%) of the working artists. ATA member agencies collectively employ an estimated one thousand talent agents.
Want to live like a celebrity, even if only for a day? Celeb 4 A Day makes it possible for you to live like the stars, by providing you with a personal paparazzi service that puts your face on the cover of a faux magazine. While their services are available to just about anyone, [...]
In order to make an intelligent decision about acting as a way to spend your life, do the research. Its a shame they only write biographies on the successful actors, when in fact it would be much more instructive to talk about all those actors who never made a dime in the business. Because the public is only exposed to star actors’ lives, most people have the idea that that is the lifestyle of any actor…
Is seems as though the movie “Quantum Solace” is already doing horribly and leaving the hardest audience (critics) cold. This is why you should always attempt to book a new job before the official reviews come out. Imagine this: if the movie is a success, your next gig will have a much larger audience, BUT if your movie bombs, atleast you have a chance to redeem yourself and a secured paycheck!!!! If on the other hand you dont book it, you risk the bad reviews affecting future employers.SO remember:…
Any business person planning to invest time, energy, and his life savings in a new business commits himself to relentless research. He interviews people in the field, checks the library and/or theinternet for information, and conducts a market survey to see if there is a need for his product.
In many ways, an actor is no different than any other business person. To enter the marketplace in an effective way, the actor needs to analyze his product by coming up with clear, concise answers to a series of essential questions that you need to ask yourself..
Whether we like it or not, its true that your face is your fortune. If you are Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry, or Brad Pitt, your face can and will open many doors for you; if you are not perceived as beautiful, reviewers might not focus on your acting. This happened to Kathy Bates, where critics like John Simon said things like “its a shame her leading man should play opposite an actress who is enormously overweight”.,,
Is it possible to earn a living as an actor? Bet you’ve heard that before…Yes, but it is difficult. According to SAG’s records, only 6% of the almost 100,000 actors who are already in the union make what SAG speaks of as “middle-class” earnings of $30,000 to $70,000 a year, and only 2% make over $100,000 annually…
Here is an article from the Acting School Directory where they talk about some qualities they believe make a great actor. I would emphasize number 2, 7 and 9. But overall I agree with most. What do you think? Tell me in your comments…
So I admit to being an absoloute “apple” fan and evangelist without a hint of shame for two reasons: it has overwhelmingly outperformed any of my PC experience, AND it is soooooo intuitive. Thats something I enjoy when I install a new prgram and dont really want to go through all the menus and tabs to learn how it works. Mac applications have a way of simplifying any users learning curve. Plus incase you havent noticed: Macs are the computers of the artists. And thats what you are my friend. Or will be soon hopefully. A working actor/artist…
Sometimes as actors we feel the need to be recognized for our job. And what better way that a grand award ceremony where other experts in the industry get together to hand you a statue? So for all of you out there trying to earn an award, know there are litterally hundreds of these to hand out. Here is a List of some of the most prominent ones:
As actors, we think of ourselves as artists, but that doesn’t mean we can neglect the business side of our career. There’s always a resume to update, meetings with our agent and mangers, auditions…etc. And to make sure we are straight in the business department, we generally (unless you actually have a rented space separate as an office) a home office…
It can be very confusing. Specially for beginners. There are so many unwritten rules, not to mention the scams that ruin the dreams of many talented actors. However, going into an acting career armed with knowledge will help minimize the confusion and maximize the success…
Please do not hire a photographer to take your headshot on the basis of their price. Having poorly made shots technically or with bad equipment end up having to take pictures frequently and spend up much more money on the long run than if they had gone to a highly-reccommended photographer in the first place…
This is the thing; if you have been following this blog you already know it focuses both on the personal, technical and business sides of acting. So you know I personally believe every actor is his own boss, his own company, his own business, his own PR, accountant, manager and his own employee. So ask yourself this…
