FUN FACTS: Mann’s Chinese Theater

  • Sid Grauman opened the theater in May 1927, and got the idea of the footprints in the cement when he accidentally stepped into wet concrete during its construction!
  • The first actors lo veave such footprints and hand-prints were Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks in April 30, 1927.
  • Some stars also record a message next to their prints. Clint Eastwood wrote: “You made my day” in alussion to the line from his movie “Dirty Harry”.
  • Marilyn Monroe wanted to sit on the cement and leave an imprint of her buttocks but wasnt allowed. She did however leave a giant rhinestone that dotted the “i” in her first name along with the imprint. Unfortunately someone stole it as a souvenir and is no-longer there.
  • Most stars where shoes whilst leaving their mark but 2 actors have made their footprints in bare feet: Harpo Marx and Sean Connery!

  • Pittsburgh was the first city to develop a channel exclusively dedicated to educational purposes in 1954.
  • The first TV show to broadcast fully in color was “The Colgate Comedy Hour” in 1953

  • The first commercial to broadcast coast-to-coast was showing both the Golden Gate bridge and the Brooklin bridge simultaneously. A great feat for 1951!!!!
